1. Enjoy Alhambra

You can not leave Granada without visiting its magnificent Nazari palace Alhambra. It should be your first stop. Behind its walls there are stories, history and marvellous architecture hiding and it has been declared a Unesco world Heritage.

You will find different areas in Alhambra and it is a visit that need some time, but it is definitely worth it. There are palaces and gardens to take your time off and relax, its monuments and details will surprise you and will transport you with its stories, so in the end you want to know more and enjoy more Granada. 2. Get lost in narrow streets next to Plaza Nueva

Plaza Nueva is situated between the city centre and Albaicin suburb. That is the oldest and most noble part of the city. Its narrow streets and all monumental old buildings like Real Chancillería makes Plaza Nueva square very picturesque. You can find also many good tapas bars in that area.

3. Enter and discover Granada´s Cathedral

This monumental renaissance style building in the very heart of the city centre was the first built by catholic kings.

Its not enough to see it only from outside, even though that is already very impressive, inside is even more. You will discover art, a different style that we are used to see in cathedrals and you will love its colourful glasswork windows.

4. Enjoy the viewpoints

You can go there in any time of the day and you will be blown away cause of the views, especially on sunsets. And don´t forget your camera, you might want to freeze that moment.

3 most impressive viewpoints are:

• San Cristobal
• San Nicolás
• Los Carvajales

Those three places could be an end of your daily route in the city in where you´ll find peace and joy as in some of the viewpoints is very typical to find local flamenco artists playing music.

5. Albaicín suburb

To have a walk in the old narrow streets in Albaicín is something you shouldn´t miss either. You will find yourself between white little houses, that are decorated with flowers, end up in hidden little squares and in viewpoints to the city and Alhambra that we mentioned before.

The hills will guide you to monumental buildings like Dar al-Horra, monasteries and old Moorish houses.

6. A walk next to the river Darro

After visiting all these beautiful churches, palaces, squares, monasteries and so on, we recommend you a place to rest. And there is no better place for that than Paseo de los Tristes.

You can take a walk enjoying the river sounds and views to Alhambra or sit down and grab a bite. This is a perfect place for that. It is full of little bars and restaurants and terraces, where to try local food and tapas.

7. Famous tapas

8. Flamenco dance show

And last but not least, what to do at night? Apart of all the options we gave, one of the very typical thing in Andalusia is flamenco dancing and singing. If you are fond of itor interested seeing one, you can go and visit some flamenco “tablao”. In Granada there are many of them inside caves, that makes it even more authentic.

Paseo de los Tristes

Paseo de los Tristes is one of the most emblematic areas of Granada. You can enjoy views to the Alhambra and have a lovely walk next to the river Darro.

The bullring area is a bit out of the way for the regular tourist – situated in a residential area, it is a very common gathering place for university students in the afternoons and evenings. Nevertheless, it’s worth the trip both for the great tapas and a look at the arena of a Spanish bullfighter.

Calle Navas

If you consider yourself a foodie, then this place, situated in old town next to Plaza del Carmen, should be on your radar.

You can experience a diverse cultural and gastronomic experience here. There are many tapas bars and restaurants that offer local cuisine with a special Nasrid touch.

Even though it is a popular street among tourists, the prices are good and even locals don’t shy away.

La Catedral de Granada

As a centric and attractive part of the city the Cathedral offers places to eat without moving from the city center – situated near Plaza de la Romanilla and Marques de Gerona. Beautiful gothic architecture and classical details combined with good gastronomy is what you will find.

Palacio de los deportes

This new  modern suburb won locals’ hearts with their good bars and restaurants, despite being off the beaten path. You can find them next to Paseo del Emperador Carlos V and sports complex Nuñez blanca. With its nice terraces it’s a place to go for tapas on sunny days.
Campo del Principe

Next to the centre, in old jewish suburb called Realejo there is an area filled with greenery. In hot summer days it is a refugee for locals at nights, who come to enjoy peaceful plazas with great views. Nice place to get lost in narrow streets, discover this suburbs history, traditions and eat well.

SACROMONTE´S OMELETT

This is certainly very typical in Granada that you can find in many bars, restaurants and even in monasteries. Its history is involved with saint San Cecilio, who lived in Sacromonte´s monastery, next to Granada.

The original Sacromonte´s omelette is prepared with suckling pigs brains, eggs and potatoes but new versions have also paprika, chorizo or peas.

GREEN BEANS  WITH JAMÓN

Another very tasty local dish is fried green beans with jamòn. The traditional recipe insists to use local goods: green beans fried with chopped jamòn from Trevélez and served with salty  bread called saladillas. It has been cooked this way for generations but nowadays we can find new versions of it.

For example  an omelette or scrambled eggs with it are definitely worth to try. As we said that it is very common to find in Granada all year round, but almost obligatory to eat on the 3^rd of May, when local festive Día de la Cruz de Granada is held.

GRANADAS STYLE REMOJÓN

Would you like to try a Mozarabs salad? Then we recommend you this one. It´s particulate name translated to english  would mean “soaked Granada´s way”. It`s a coastal dish but you can find it inland also and even in other counties than Granada.  To make a perfect Remojón you need the best ingredients. Despite different versions of it, the most common is to make it with orange, spring onion and cod. You can also find it with olives, potatoes, boiled eggs or tried tomatoes but always with those three main ingredients and  seasoned with olive oil from southern Spain.

When is the best time to try it? In the past it was common at the orange picking season, but nowadays you can find it all year round.

FRIED AUBERGINES WITH MOLASSES

This dish is known in all over Andalusia and it has an Arab background. The mixture of different flavours is an explosion in your mouth even though it´s a dish that is very easy to prepare:  aubergine pieces are rolled in flour, then fried in hot oil and when golden brown and plated,  poured over with a little of molasses. Its contrast of salty and sweet will surprise you.

PIONONOS FROM SANTA FE

This pastry was invented in 1897   in honor of a pope´s visit to Granada. Nevertheless the original version is the most common, there are also many new flavoured piononos like chocolate, raspberry, vanilla, tiramisu and so on. If you love sweets, it is certainly a must to try.
